For the second year in a row, the New York Jets will enter training camp with a ton of hype surrounding the franchise.
Aaron Rodgers is back from his Achilles injury, Breece Hall looks ready to dominate, Robert Saleh’s defense is stacked from top to bottom, and the front office acquired proven difference-makers in Tyron Smith and Mike Williams.
On this Thursday’s edition of “NFL Live,” ESPN’s Kimberley A. Martin talked about the Jets’ potential for the 2024 season.
Martin admit that New York has the talent to contend this fall. However, the Jets’ entire season rests solely on the health of Rodgers.
“This is the ultimate boom-or-bust team for 2024. Their entire season hinges on a 40-year-old Achilles and 30-year-old knees up and down this roster,” Martin said. “There’s only two things that will stop the Jets this year, and it’s going to be Father Time and the turf at MetLife Stadium.
“When you look at the roster, as Mina [Kimes] described it, you get so excited because you think about Aaron Rodgers throwing the ball to Garrett Wilson – which we didn’t see enough of last year – and Mike Williams. Oh my gosh, Breece the beast [Hall]. But then again, everything hinges on health and that’s something we can’t predict.”
Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1 of the 2023 season. It was arguably the worst possible scenario for the Jets.
If the Jets can keep Rodgers upright next season, they should be extremely fun to watch. That is, of course, if the four-time MVP is still an elite quarterback.
