It’s never to early for draft season, and with the College Football season now in full swing, it’s time for the first edition of…Dylan’s Dimes!
Introduction:
Dylan’s Dimes is a ten part breakdown of three of the biggest draft eligible players taking the field in some of the biggest matchups each week. I analyze background, on the field performance, off the field traits, opinions around the NCAA, all leading up to the dropping the dime on how they could fit with gang green.
1/10-The Prospects:
This receiver is one of the most talented playmakers in the country. His superb athleticism and all around domination of the opposition has earned him the rank of the first prospect to be broken-down. This player is, the electrifying Chris Olave–wide receiveer, Ohio State.
The second prospect of the week is Garrett Wilson WR, Ohio State, who is a walking highlight reel, and a running mate to the aforementioned Olave.
The last prospect of the week is a fringe first rounder if the draft happened today and a legitimate threat to garner Heisman attention. With arguably the biggest game of his life coming in an instate clash with Iowa, it only felt right that Breece Hall, the Iowa State Running back, rounded out the trio of playmakers getting analyzed this week.

3/10-The Background:
Chris Olave:
Olave was born in San Ysidro, California. The Cali boy attended Mission Hills high school and it’s fitting given he was a man on a mission during his time there. Olave posted 93 receptions, 1,764 yards and 20 TDs during his senior year. He was a four star prospect and one of the top 60 receivers in the country. Olave went on to receive interest from UCLA, USC and Utah before choosing OSU. Funny enough, Olave was a diehard Oregon fan, and he’ll get a chance to make them regret not holding interest later today. Olave was a three sport athlete in high school, as he ran a 10.8 second 100 meter dash and posted a 23 feet, 6-inch long jump.
Garrett Wilson:
Wilson has always been a star football player, first at quarterback, then at receiver. Wilson made the switch when he got to Lake Travis high school and never looked back. Wilson posted 204 receptions for 3,359 yards and 55 TDs in his time in high school. Wilson became a five star prospect and played in the 2019 All-American Bowl before committing to OSU. Wilson was actually born in Columbus, so OSU always held a special place in his heart.
Breece Hall:
Breece grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, before moving to Wichita Northwest for high school. Hall was first team All-Metro and first team All-State in his junior and senior year. Hall eclipsed 2,000 yards in back to back years and posted 65 TDs in the two year span. He was also named Wichita Metro Player of the Year.
4/10-The Performance:
2019 & 2020 Statistics:
Olave:
2019: 13 games, 48 receptions, 840 yards, 12 TDs, 17.4 YPR
2020: 7 games, 50 receptions, 729 yards, 7 TDs, 14.6 YPR
Wilson:
2019: 13 games, 30 receptions, 432 yards, 5 TDs, 14.4 YPR
2020: 8 games, 43 receptions, 723 yards, 6 TDs, 16.8 YPR
Hall:
2019: 12 games, 186 carries, 897 yards, 9 TDs, 4.8 YPC, 23 receptions, 252 yards, 1 TD, 11.0 YPR
2020: 12 games, 279 carries, 1,572 yards, 21 TDs, 5.6 YPC, 23 receptions, 180 yards, 2 TDs, 7.8 YPR
5/10-The Good:
Chris Olave:
Chris Olave is one of the most complete receiver prospects I’ve evaluated. He’s a hard route runner and breaks aggressively. He creates separation well based on how crisp he runs his routes. He’s a redzone weapon as he consistently finds just enough separation to score. He’s a big play machine and demonstrates his innate ability to read the field and use his abilities to make things happen.
Garrett Wilson:
Wilson is a crisp route runner as well, although I’d give Olave the edge. They run a different route tree though, as Wilson thrives more as an inside receiver. He controls his body really well and can really find gaps in coverage at an exceptional level. His explosiveness is top notch, and arguably some of the best I’ve seen. His natural athletic ability is absurd and he shows lots of glimpses into why he earned a five-star rating.
Breece Hall:
Hall is a MACHINE. His athleticism is off the charts, and he constantly finds space and bursts through gaps. His stride is outstanding and his speed is near the top of the backs in this class. Hall has incredible vision and it might just be his best trait. His vision is at an elite level, and if you compared his film to even some of the best pro backs it would still be at an elite level.
6/10-The Bad:
Chris Olave:
Olave’s hands can be a problem at times, he tends to struggle holding onto the ball at the point of collision and that level of inconsistency could be a larger issue if failed to correct. Olave could also stand to improve as a blocker. This ties into hand usage, but his hand usage in the blocking game could stand to be tinkered and made to be more efficient.
Garrett Wilson:
Wilson could stand to see growth in durability. He hasn’t given any indication to think he isn’t whilst in college, but in high school Wilson missed time and with more volume heading his way this season, health is something I’m keeping an eye on. For Wilson, he creates separation well, but one of the most glaring flaws is his yards after the catch.
Breece Hall:
Hall has a lot to like in his game, but his patience lacks at time, and that makes his other flaws more glaring. For someone of his stature, Hall fails to break tackles well at times and can be brought down too easily. Hall could use improved patience as a way to complement his exceptional vision, which would then cover up any other minor inconsistencies in his game.
7/10-The Focus of Improvement:
Although all three of these players are exceptional playmakers, all can stand to improve. Listed below is each player’s biggest focus of improvement for the rest of this season.
Chris Olave:
Hands
Garrett Wilson:
Breakaway Speed
Breece Hall:
Patience
8/10-The Potential:
Chris Olave:
Olave has potential to be a star receiver in the NFL. Olave can be a true number one receiver in the league, but I see him reaching his ceiling as a number two receiver. If Olave finds himself in the right place and alongside another talented receiver, he could be a true star in the pros. Having someone else to take the pressure off him can allow him to do what he does best, which is make things happen.
Garrett Wilson:
Wilson is someone I believe hasn’t even scratched the surface of what he can still accomplish. I believe that he could be a first rounder in the upcoming draft, however, I do believe he could slide farther than Olave. Although Wilson’s physical potential may be greater, his production has lacked in comparison. I believe Ryan Day’s offense doesn’t necessarily fit Wilson as well as it does Olave. I think Wilson will thrive in the inside in the pros, but he truly could be spread out and used in a variety of different packages that he hasn’t in college. The sky may just be the limit with Wilson if he can tap into his potential, but if he becomes strictly an inside weapon his potential could be capped.
Breece Hall:
Hall slid right in as the Cyclone’s replacement for David Montgomery, and funny enough, the two could be comparable. I see Hall being an impact player and a team’s lead back just like Montgomery. If he puts it all together though, there is a strong chance that Hall could exceed that comparison and be one of the top backs in the NFL. Establishing more patience and physicality as a runner will be the key to taking him to the best level he could reach.
9/10-The Outside Opinion:
Chris Olave:
“Legitimate Devonta Smith vibes with Chris Olave this year. Both seniors who could’ve been early round draft picks who chose to come back. Both far from freakish athletes but just so dang smooth and good at everything.”- Chris Hummer National CFB Writer for 24/7 Sports
Garrett Wilson:
“Garrett Wilson is SILKY”- Matt Miller ESPN NFL Draft Analyst
Breece Hall:
“Running back Breece Hall has cemented his claim as one of the top running backs.”- Josh Edwards CBS Sports
10/10-The Fit:
Chris Olave:
Olave and Elijah Moore is a duo that I never knew I wanted. The thought of the two of them running routes for Zach Wilson just made me salivate. Olave and Moore have innate playmaking ability and the two together could be one of the best young receiver duos. Not to mention the thought of Olave in LaFleur’s offense sounds very intriguing. The fit though would likely be better in an offense that would allow him to be a true outside receiver and compliment a true number one. Also, the Jets have glaring needs at other spots right now, Olave is the kind of player that could be hard to pass up though.
Garrett Wilson:
Wilson is someone I would love to have if I were running an offense, especially this one. Wilson is so elusive and fun to watch that he would be a dynamic threat in this offense. Arguably, Wilson may be the better fit for this offense given his play style. Wilson could likely reach his full potential in a LaFleur offense and the scheme fit could be enough for the Jets to seriously consider adding him. With that said, the team shouldn’t pass up filling other voids, as fun as either Buckeye would be, the team needs to prioritize other areas.
Breece Hall:
Hall is a guy who could be a bell cow back in most offenses. I don’t think his rushing style would fit well in this offense though, given his lack of physicality. His elusiveness would play well, but as tantalizing as Hall is, he would likely fit better in another system.
