14-year veteran offensive tackle Tyron Smith announced his retirement. Smith, an eight-time Pro Bowler and two-time First-Team All-Pro, spent the 2024 season with the New York Jets but is best known for his time with the Dallas Cowboys.

Tyron Smith Announces Retirement With Dallas Cowboys

After spending his first 13 years in the league with the Dallas Cowboys, Tyron Smith moved to the Big Apple and spent the 2024 season with the New York Jets. Widely perceived to be postseason contenders with a now-healthy Aaron Rodgers, the Jets failed to live up to expectations in 2024. However, Smith himself played well, recording a respectable 73.7 PFF grade on the season. Unfortunately, injuries limited him to just 10 games on the year.

Tyron Smith originally entered the league as a first-round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Selected by the Dallas Cowboys, the USC product spent his rookie season out of position at right tackle. Despite the unusual position, he still started all 16 games and established himself as a key starter. However, he switched to the left side in 2012 and never looked back.

After proving himself in 2012, Smith became a household name and the key part of the NFL’s most dominant offensive line. Except for an injury-plagued 2020, Smith made the Pro Bowl every season from 2013 to 2021 and racked up two First-Team All-Pro honors during the same timeframe. After injuries limited him to just four games in 2022, he bounced back by playing at a high level in 2023 while earning Second-Team All-Pro honors.

While the Cowboys never went on a deep playoff run during his time in Dallas, Tyron Smith made multiple playoff appearances. Most noticeably, Smith was the left tackle during the infamous “Dez Caught It” game in 2014 and protected Tony Romo and Dak Prescott throughout his career.

Since signing his rookie contract, Tyron Smith has started and appeared in 171 games. While on the field, the USC product made eight Pro Bowls and earned a spot on the All-2010s Hall of Fame team.
