The Jets have apparently made a trade:
We have agreed to trade DT Jowon Briggs and a 2026 7th round pick to the Jets in exchange for a 2026 6th round pick

Briggs was a seventh round draft pick last year and started off on the practice squad before eventually playing in six games for the Browns. He had 13 tackles, a fumble recovery, a tackle for loss and two quarterback hits in 133 defensive snaps.
He’s a decent athlete who ran 5.04 at 313 pounds at his pro day while also putting up an impressive 39 bench press reps.
The Jets may have made this move because Byron Cowart, who was listed as a first-teamer, hasn’t practiced since before preseason began and perhaps will start off on injured reserve. There are plenty of people in the mix for roles but they may need depth.
They may also just need bodies to get them through the last preseason game and Briggs could be the kind of player who ultimately is on the practice squad even though they gave up value to get him. He’s played well in preseason but probably wouldn’t be a lock to make the Jets’ roster or a candidate to start for them.
Pay close attention, though, because this may not be the only trade currently in the works. Stay tuned…
