At 0-5, the New York Jets are one of the worst teams in the NFL, and linebacker Quincy Williams may be a possible trade candidate this season. According to a report, one source believes Williams could be on the trade block once he returns from his injury. Williams is joining a team that isn’t in the greatest place, and it makes sense to move him to another roster that is a contender. The Jets should be able to use the linebacker as a viable trade chip to garner some draft capital to build around quarterback Justin Fields.
Originally selected in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Murray State product is in his contract year this season, so it makes sense why the Jets may consider a trade. It’s fair to say that the Jets will probably win two to three games at most, but a trade candidate like Williams should give them a solid fifth or sixth-round pick from next year’s draft. Williams isn’t the most explosive linebacker in the league, but he’s a solid tackler who can help a defense stop the ground game in situational moments. The jumpstart to his career shouldn’t be an issue as long as he joins these possible destinations to reignite his career.

Possible Fits
Dallas Cowboys
This past offseason for the Dallas Cowboys didn’t give them plenty of promise entering the 2025 campaign after trading away Micah Parsons. However, they’re doing a lot better than most were expecting. Marist Liufau is turning into a solid run-hitter in situational moments, while Kenneth Murray Jr. and Shemar James have been the most consistent playmakers in this linebacker unit. They still need some help on the edge, as Jack Sanborn hasn’t been able to do much to stop the easy slant routes, so they should at least roll the dice again on another linebacker.
Williams isn’t going to drastically change the defense around, but it should give them more options to work with since he’s coming off an injury, and at age 29, he’s ready to make a comeback in the league.
Los Angeles Chargers
Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Chargers traded for linebacker Odafe Oweh, which means their quest for Super Bowl contention isn’t out of the question. They lost two straight games after going 3-0, but they knew the linebacker room needed an upgrade while Khalil Mack and Denzel Perryman are on IR. The Chargers do have a deep group of linebackers, but none of them are proven enough to withstand the pressure other than Daiyan Henley and Kyle Kennard.
Ever since they lost Joey Bosa this past offseason, the need was always for a linebacker, no matter if they had a deep unit. However, they should continue building on it and get Williams on a low-stakes trade since he’s in his last year of his contract, similar to Oweh.
Jacksonville Jaguars
At 4-1, the Jaguars are looking to be an AFC threat this time around. Trevor Lawrence and the offense are on fire, but they must continue to figure out how to keep upgrading the defense. The trade for Greg Newsome shows that they’re making a few upgrades and preparing themselves for a deep playoff run. Devin Lloyd is the most dominant linebacker on this team, so why not pair him with Williams, who is hungry for a run coming off his injury?
