Another day of camp Aaron Glenn brought forth more damning comments regarding former head coach Robert Saleh. With camp just a few days old, we’ve now heard from Alijah Vera-Tucker, head coach Aaron Glenn and former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum. Each one letting fans know just how bad things were under Saleh.
First it was Vera-Tucker, the starting guard who told the press that with Aaron Glenn as the team’s new head coach, he’s seeing accountability for the first time as a pro. Speaking about Glenn, he said he could see things at 1 Jets Drive getting better because “He praises physicality, but even more, like, accountability. I think that’s very important for a head coach to do.” Then came the shot at Saleh, intentional or not, he continued “That’s something I haven’t seen as much of in my career.”
It should come as no surprise that Saleh held nobody accountable, but to hear a respected leader such as Vera-Tucker mention it just adds that much more weight.
Then came Aaron Glenn himself, responding to a question about the improved play of defensive end Will McDonald. Glenn had a quick, simple answer that once again, did not reflect well on Saleh. “It’s coaching. Because he can do it. You said he’s never done it last year, and now you’ve seen him do it. It’s just coaching. That’s all it is.
Hardly a glowing endorsement in regards to what was going on with the team’s previous regime. And despite being a rookie head coach, Glenn is a savvy guy who understands what those comments say about Saleh, but that was clearly none of his concern.
Saving the harshest criticism for last, former Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum chimed in and said that “There was such terrible coaching in New York last year, Aaron Glenn is going to be Dan Campbell East in terms of penalties, turnovers, end of half scoring.”
That’s one current starting player, the current head coach and previous GM all on the same page. The coaching in Florham Park last season wasn’t up to par.
With Aaron Glenn in the building, much of that should change.
