Alabama Signal Caller Ty Simpson Declares for NFL Draft, Giving Jets Elite Option

Could Ty Simpson be Jets Answer at Quarterback?

It can be argued that the Jets are currently not in as bad a position as everyone initially thought, as they have some offensive pieces to support the team structure in Garrett Wilson, Breece Hall and young tight end Mason Taylor. However, it is in the quarterback room where things begin to fall apart, with a constant emphasis being placed on the team finding the perfect QB. With a wasted season under their belt, the Jets are being forced to look toward the 2026 NFL draft, which was inevitable, but Ty Simpson might change this weary outlook for the Jets.

Simpson has officially declared for the upcoming 2026 draft, which of course changes how the Jets may approach the draft there’s not a QB there for them to take with the second pick.. Overall, this entry is good news, especially for the Jets, as it might give them an opportunity to find that perfect QB. Specifically, Simpson’s presence deepens the QB class with his high-level traits, such as his 91.1 elite immediate accuracy and passing grade of 86.6 per PFF. As draft conversations expand beyond scouting circles, betting markets often reflect these shifts early, particularly on platforms where trusted offshore gambling is available, as they tend to cover a wider range of draft-related outcomes. Within those markets, you will find Simpson to be a favorite for the Jets.

Placing 30th in the CBS Sports prospect ranking, the QB has odds of +400 for the Jets’ potential picks. This showcases how Simpson is not just another player or random QB pick, but could have the potential to be the Jets future QB1. A look back at Simpson’s track record further proves this, starting with his transition to a high-impact starter (from backup) in Alabama. Standing as Nick Saban’s former protégé, the QB totaled 28 touchdown passes alongside five interceptions for the Crimson Tide.

Additionally, Simpson’s throwing for 3,567 passing yards was extremely impressive, showcasing a major breakthrough as he led the team to victory in the College Football Playoff quarterfinals. As expected, the Jets have taken the 2nd and 16th spots in the draft order for the NFL, which means they get first to fourth picks within Rounds 1 to 4. Of course, this provides the team with an upper hand over competitors like the Browns or Giants, who have previously proved very QB-needy.

It is worth noting, however, that the Jets have a history of dropping the ball with high-profile QB selections, so this top pick spot means nothing if they aren’t strategic in their approach. Based on current industry predictions, Fernando Mendoza is rumored to end up with the Las Vegas Raiders. That means Simpson’s late declaration plays into their favor. It throws a wrench in the works and provides the Jets with an QB option after Oregon’s Dante Moore announced that he’s going back to college.

Ultimately, the lead-up to the NFL Draft is a long one, riddled with anticipation and dragging out fans’ curiosity. With an offseason change-up ahead, it begs the question of whether the front office will actually pull the trigger on Simpson, a talent that could change everything.
