Aaron Glenn Says Brady Cook to Remain Jets Starter

December 17, 2025 by Jet Nation

So it appears Jets QB Brady Cook is going to get an extended look.  Head coach Aaron Glenn met with the press earlier today and said Cook will remain the team’s starting quarterback.  No decision has been made in terms of who will be the team’s backup as both Justin Fields and Tyrod Taylor nurse injuries.

#Jets coach Aaron Glenn announced that QB Brady Cook starts again this week.

An undrafted free agent out of Missouri, Cook started his first pro game last week and had some ups and downs.

He would throw his first career touchdown to AD Mitchell early in the contest and completed 66% of his passes on the day in completing 22 of 33 passes for 176 yards.  He would go on to throw a total of three interceptions with one appearing to be the result of a miscommunication, and another coming after a poor effort from wide receiver Arain Smith who took a soft approach to a catchable pass from Cook in the fourth quarter.

“You can see why Arian Smith doesn’t get much playing time. The last thing that should be is an interception”.

If you were to log on to social casino to  place a wager on Cook having a ton of success without Garrett Wilson or a true number one on the field, we’d say it was a long shot at best.  But that doesn’t mean he can’t develop his game which is what Aaron Glenn said he’s looking for.

Cook is a mobile quarterback who has a ton of experience in a major conference in the SEC where he consistently squared off against some of the best competition in the country.  His forty-seven career games at Mizzou have played a big part in Cook’s poise and maturity, which has been on display in his two games.  The quarterback can regularly be seen barking out orders up and down the line of scrimmage and looking confident in doing so.  The moment doesn’t look too big for the rookie who few gave a shot to even make it this far.

With the Jets having three games remaining against the Saints, Dolphins and Bills, it would make no sense for Glenn to go to Taylor or Fields.  Neither one is part of the team’s long-term plans and both are known commodities.  Brady Cook is the only signal caller with a shot to hang around and contribute not just this week, but for year’s to come.

It’s highly unlikely there’s anything Cook could do to prevent the Jets from selecting a quarterback in April’s draft, but that doesn’t mean he can’t play himself onto the 2026 roster now.
