Aaron Glenn Fires Six Coaches as Staff Overhaul Begins

Aaron Glenn knew what had to be done, and after a few weeks of evaluating his staff, he did it.  The Jets head coach let go of six assistant coaches following one of the worst seasons in franchise history.

Glenn’s 3-14 club was tough to watch as they set multiple NFL records for futility.  His defense didn’t intercept a pass all season, his hand-picked quarterback failed to throw for sixty yards on four different occasions, and his team lost an NFL record five consecutive games by 23 points or more.  Heads had to roll, and now they have.

The departed?

QB Coach Charles London: The Jets knew they were getting a reclamation project in signing first-round bust quarterback Justin Fields, but under London, Fields looked worse than he did at any other point in his career.  As previously mentioned, Fields had four starts in which he failed to pass for even sixty yards.  That’s unheard of in 2025, and given London’s complete lack of success in his role, he was a bad hire from the start and had to be let go.

Pass Game Coordinator Scott Turner: Given the fact that no Jets quarterback was able to consistently move the ball through the air this season, Turner’s departure also makes sense.  Even as the Jets were lacking weapons, Turner didn’t make the most of what he had to work with.

D-Line Coach Eric Washington: The development of Jowon Briggs clearly wasn’t enough to save Washington from Aaron Glenn., The unit got pummeled on  a consistent bases, but in fairness to him there was very little to work with.  After trading Quinnen Williams, things were bound to get ugly in a hurry and they certainly did.

LB Coach Aaron Curry: The regression of the Jets linebackers was one of the biggest stories of the season.  Both Quincy Williams and Jamien Sherwood looked largely pedestrian and out of position for much of the year.

Roosevelt Williams and Alonso Escalante, a pair of defense assistants were also let go.

With the Jets still in the midst of their search for a defensive coordinator, one would have to imagine the new play caller will have a big part in finding replacements for each of the staffers who were let go.

A recent report suggested two “big name” candidates rejected the Jets interview requests outright, it remains to be seen if Aaron Glenn can nab a proven, respected coordinator along the lines of Wink Martindale, or if he’ll have to add another first-timer looking to learn on the job with Gang Green.
