Of course, it was the NFL draft this weekend. However, more importantly, it was the JetsFix.com ninth annual draft picks contest.
Thanks to all those who entered. In this year’s contest, it was a story of near misses. After the Jets opened up with two very predictable picks, the rest of their selections were relatively unexpected and there were several people who almost won.
Spare a thought for dcjetsfan, who correctly named three Jets, which would have been enough to win. Unfortunately, one of those was safety Jordan Clark, who was picked up as a UDFA, for which no points are awarded. He was the only entrant to identify Clark as a potential Jet.
Also unlucky was Enumerated Powers, who only needed to score two points and he would have won the whole thing because he exactly nailed the tie-breaker by correctly predicting that Tyler Shough would be off the board at 40. However, again, one of the two Jets he identified was another UDFA, this time Dean Clark.
Own goal of the day, though, goes to doyoudoodoo who correctly identified Armand Membou and Arian Smith, and probably also meant to include Mason Taylor which would have given him the three points needed to win. Unfortunately, he instead selected Mason Graham twice! He also had a UDFA in Dean Clark, who didn’t count, and named 11 players instead of 10 so probably should have been disqualified. Other than that, good job.
So, it came down to an eight-way tie on two points, with the winner easily the closest to the Shough tie-breaker with his prediction that he’d be gone at 42.
Your new champion is Starz31!
For the record, 19 people called the Membou pick, seven got the Mason Taylor pick right and four got the Arian Smith pick right. Nobody guessed the other four draft picks, but as noted some of you had the UDFAs Jordan Clark and Ryan Clark (4 people) included in your entries.
Finally, the judge’s decision on Brain’s attempt to game the contest by including players drafted in previous years by the Jets because the wording of the rules suggest it is irrelevant where the players is drafted without specifying whether when the player was drafted is irrelevant has failed. This is on the grounds that the wording also doesn’t specify which Thursday night the entry had to be in by, so a reasonable interpretation would be the same Thursday night as the picks named were drafted. Therefore all 10 selections are late and therefore ineligible. Nice try, but…
Disqualified!
