The UltimateNYG Draft analyst shares some thoughts after the first weekend of preseason:
- Dart- composed. Impressed by him. It is still early but it looks like the Giants may have found themselves a QB. I’d like to see that tough schedule send the Giants to 1-7 or 2-6 and then bring in Dart to get the snaps the rest of the way.
- The Giants are rebuilding but they are still missing some important pieces. I would love for them to end up with a very high pick in R1 and for another team to trade up and for the Giants to collect a lot of assets to finish their rebuild.
- Yes, the Giants still need to build out the OL, but I really want a WR opposite Nabers. (Andy is not worried about this.. Daniel Jones’ cap hit is finished in 2025, so the Giants will be swimming in money in 2026. WR is always available.)
- The best thing I like about Abdul Carter is his hands. Yes, he has insane bend and his reaction times are scary. But it is his use of hands, particularly on the inside move, that are what will give Offensive Tackles nightmares. The OT will take a risk with getting beat wide on the edge. They prefer that to getting beat inside because the QB is going to be in more trouble, as they can’t evade that as easily. The OT needs to honor the inside and that is why Carter is going to cause so many problems. There are many EDGE pass rushers who have an outside move. They lack what Carter has, which is the ability to go outside and inside. It’s his hands that make the inside move so effective.
- As for my Jets, I like Aaron Glenn because he is from the Bill Parcells school. There was a play in the first preseason game where one of his players hit a guy out of bounds and cost the team a 15 yard penalty. Glenn immediately pulled him from the game, a Parcells move- you are not going to do stupid cr*p and cost my team.
- People do not realize that the Jets had the #3 Defense last year. This was despite being out there all day with a struggling Offense. This year they have some very good players on the DL and their Secondary is great.
- The Jets Defense suffocated Green Bay’s Jordan Love + #1’s.
- Fields played well but the Jets lack a true QB.
- The Jets OL is for real. They have three Round 1’s. And their newest draft pick Armand Membou graded out really well in his first game, with big scores in both run blocking and pass protection.
- The Jets R2 pick, Mason Taylor, is a two way TE that can run block and be pass catching threat. He has a high ankle sprain, but he was looking really good in camp before that.
- I would like another year of better draft picks but I suspect Glenn will outperform and get them an 8-9 year.
- This is the first time in a while that, between the Giants and the Jets, you can combine their teams for one very good playoff team.
