Why The Giants Game vs The Commanders is a Must Win

December 2, 2022 by Last Word On Pro Football

Bills Must Win

The New York Giants are 7-4 coming off two straight losses to the Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys. Looking at their record, one might assume that they are bound to make the playoffs. However, the Giants are not your regular 7-4 team. And with a difficult schedule ahead, they could fall just short of a Wildcard spot. They need to win two out of six more games to have a chance of making the playoffs. The Giants face the 9-1 Eagles twice, the 8-2 Vikings, the 4-6-1 Colts, and the 7-5  Commanders twice.

Giants Must Win Game vs Rival Commanders

The Giants Have the Toughest Strength Of Schedule In The NFL

With six games remaining in the regular season the Giants have the toughest remaining strength of schedule at .688 according to tankathon.com. That means that their opponents have a combined winning percentage of around 69 percent, which is at the top of the league. A home game against Washington is the second easiest game on the rest of the Giants’ schedule behind a home game against the Indianapolis Colts in week 16. The Giants cannot rely on beating Minnesota on the road or beating Philly at all.

The Commanders Are One Game Back

The Commanders have a record of 7-5 just behind the Giants at 7-4. The Giants are currently third in the NFC East this year behind the Eagles and Cowboys. If the Giants and Commanders have the same record at the end of the year, the team with the better division record gets a higher seed.

This is important because if Seattle finishes its season strong, it cannot afford to get swept by Washington. The Giants’ best path to the playoffs is sweeping the Commanders and grabbing a win against the Eagles. This would put them at a 10-7 record with three division wins. The Commanders beat the Eagles in week 10, which might end up hurting the Giants if they can’t finish with a better record than Washington.

The Giants Need to Stop Their Losing Streak

The Giants have lost three out of four after starting the season with a record of 6-1. They need to get back to their winning ways or things could get ugly fast. Their next four games are critical and will ultimately determine the outcome of the season. They have the Commanders twice, the Eagles, Colts, and Vikings. The Giants need to come out of that stretch with two wins. If they were to lose it would be hard to bounce back, especially when the Eagles are in line the next week.

The Eagles Are a Matchup Nightmare

The Giants don’t match up well with the Eagles. The Eagles are currently a juggernaut in the NFL and have one of the best rosters in the league. They have dominated on both sides of the ball all season long and they are consistently ranked top 3 in the power rankings. The Eagles’ offense will be the best offense the Giants have played all year. They are third in the NFL in average points per game at 27.5 only trailing the Chiefs and Bills. Philadelphia also has a nasty defense that has generated 36 sacks according to statmuse.com. They also lead the NFL in interceptions with 15, with safety C.J. Gardner Johnson having 6.

Head coach Brian Dabol‘s squad has shown that they can’t win if they turn the ball over against the Seahawks when they had three of them. It is difficult to bounce back from turnovers when your offense cannot produce. The Giants’ receivers are going to have a hard time getting separation against Eagles cornerbacks Darius Slay and James Bradberry. Saquon Barkley is going to have to produce in a big way for the Giants to have a chance.
