Despite being linked to a few quarterbacks, the New York Giants selected LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers with the No. 6 pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Nabers is expected to be the top target in the passing game for Giants quarterback Daniel Jones. After all, he had over 1,500 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns last season for LSU.
During this Friday’s introductory press conference, Nabers was asked about the starting quarterback for the Giants.
Nabers revealed that he already had conversations with Jones. Unfortunately, he botched his name while at the podium.
“I actually did talk to Janiel Dones,” Nabers told reporters. “He was like, ‘I’m happy you’re here, we’re going to hit the ground running.’ He’s going to learn about me, I’m going to learn about him. We’re going to get together.”
It didn’t take long for countless fans to make “Janiel Dones” jokes on social media.

Giants general manager Joe Schoen told reporters on Thursday night that Jones was fired up about the team picking Nabers, and rightfully so. He won’t have to worry about losing his job.
“He’s fired up,” Schoen said, via ESPN. “I texted him Malik’s number. That was one of the first things I did. He’s fired up about it. He knew before anyone else on ESPN and NFL Network knew.”
We’ll see if Nabers can take New York’s offense to another level this fall.
