The week that was: Recapping week 2 in the NFC East

So, let’s take a second to think about this here. There was no preseason. 3 of the 4 teams in the NFC East have new head coaches. There have to be some growing pains, right?  Let’s look back on the week that was!

Giants, Cowboys and Eagles down a combined 51-17

Dallas Cowboys 40- Atlanta Falcons 39

The jokes almost write themselves here. But at one point, the Cowboys down to the Falcons 26-7.  And what seemed like a sure loss, turned out to be anything but.

After early mistakes from the Cowboys offense by way of fumbles, they were able to collect themselves and right the ship.  Quarterback Dak Prescott ended up throwing for 450 yards and rushed for 3 touchdowns.  After a tremendous offensive effort, the game eventually came down to the Falcons failing to recover an onside kick, which allowed Dallas to get the ball at the 10.  Kicker Greg Zuerlein was able to kick a 46-yard field goal for the win. It was a great show for the 20,000 in attendance.

Next up, the Cowboys travel to a hot Seattle Seahawks team that just came off of a close win themselves against the New England Patriots.

Chicago Bears 17 – New York Giants 13

The Giants were never really in this game until the later parts. After being down 17-0, the Giants decided to make a game out of it, getting within 4 points of the Bears in the closing minutes.  Sadly, losing running back Saquon Barkley didn’t help either. The thought is that it most likely is an ACL injury, but more tests will be run to find out.

After looking bleak in the first half, the Giants regrouped and came out ready to play. QB Daniel Jones threw for 241 yards with an interception and no touchdowns.  The Giants rally ended short, however, when wide receiver Golden Tate was called for offensive pass interference as time ran out.

Their chances of going 0-3 are increasing, as they look to welcome the San Fransisco 49ers next week.

Los Angeles Rams 37 – Philadelphia Eagles 19

The Eagles didn’t look great in their home debut against the Los Angeles Rams. QB Carson Wentz was pretty pedestrian and didn’t look like the QB of old. But the Eagles defense wasn’t doing much either as Ram QB Jared Goff was able to hit tight end Tyler Higbee for 3 touchdowns. After that, the game was pretty much all but done.

The Eagles’ defense just couldn’t seem to figure it out. But there is some good news in all of this. Last week, Wentz was sacked 8 times.  This week, he wasn’t sacked at all.  Baby steps, right? Hopefully, that’s something to grow on.

Next up for the Eagles? They play the Cincinnati Bengals at home. I think it’s fair to call this one a must-win, don’t you?

Arizona Cardinals 30 – Washington Football Team 15

Last week, Washington was down 17-0 to the Eagles and came back to win. Going down to the Cardinals 20-0 must have meant that they REALLY were going to win, right?  I know, very flawed logic on my part!

Unfortunately, last week’s magic didn’t carry over. While it’s still a work in progress, QB Dwayne Haskins threw for 223 yards and had a touchdown.  Again, there are going to be some growing pains, especially in a team that has had SO much happening in the offseason, and this is to be expected.  There are some good things to take away, but this Washington team still has some work to do.

Next week, they stay on the road and head to Cleveland to take on the Browns.
