The New York Giants will officially welcome running back Saquon Barkley (knee) back to the field in Week 1 against the Denver Broncos. He received the green light on Saturday and could play a major role on Sunday.
Barkley’s teammate, Sterling Shepard, recently sat down the Giants Wire ahead of the season and was asked about the impact the running back will have.
“It’s huge, man. I mean he brings a lot of attention to defenses and he’s the best runner I’ve been around and that says something because I’ve been around a lot of great backs,” Shepard said. “He’s able to make things happen in the blink of an eye and that’s something the offense has definitely been missing.”
With Barkley’s return and the plethora of weapons added on offense, Shepard could be the biggest beneficiary from the attention being shifted to Barkley (and Kenny Golladay).
But make no mistake about it, even when drawing all of that added attention, Barkley is capable of breaking a game wide open — Shepard can testify to that.
Just how much of a role Barkley plays in Week 1 remains to be seen, but Shepard, who recently partnered with Pepsi on the “Made for Giants Watching” campaign, and the rest of the Giants’ offense are thrilled to be getting their captain back.
