I really don’t want to regurgitate the misery of keeping Joe Schoen another year. He didn’t do enough to warrant the Giants keeping him on. I will cede to another Giants fan, DR:
“The tone is always set from the top. When John Mara says 7-27 is good enough for the GM to keep his job, you will get more mediocrity. When ownership says there is no price to pay for drafting Evan Neal, Deonte Banks, Tyler Nubin, JMS, Josh Ezeudu and Jalin Hyatt in premium rounds, you will get more of the same. The Talmud says “The fish stinks from the head on down” and the “no accountability message” will permeate throughout the entire organization. You will get more sleeping at meetings from Abdul Carter, more dropped passes from Slayton and more offsides and illegal procedures from anyone not named Andrew Thomas on the offense. Players are not stupid and they hear the message loud and clear. Bobby Skinner said this morning that Mara should go on record that nothing short of winning will be acceptable. Mara made it clear that what he needs is not winning but to see improvement. Improvement = acceptance of mediocrity.”
One commenter on the bbb podcast noted that it feels like the Mara ownership prizes Public Relations wins after 14 seasons of disappointment. It was reported that Mara was pleased with an end of season victory over Dallas. What does it say when you are so desperate to find satisfaction in a win over an opponent, one that benched their starting QB and tanked the final game? Pathetic. Mara believes in Schoen a lot more than we do. Fans don’t think Schoen is incapable of winning. It’s merely that fans are not confident in Schoen, who went from botching OL in 2023 to botching QB in 2024 to botching the run defenders/FG kickers in 25. We are left to ask – what will be botch in 26?
There is a lot to speculate on re the next Head Coach. Wonder comments on Kevin Stefanski:
“Stefanski was a 2x COTY, an experienced competent coach. No one could have overcome the Watson debacle. Can he be a strong HC who gets his players to play the way they need to play, ie Dart not taking unnecessary hits, Carter reaching his potential, less penalties, more discipline? Yes, I believe so. Stepanski’s uncertainty? It remains to be seen if he can excel with bonafide players, including a true QB.”
We will comment on the HC search as its candidate/s becomes clearer.
