The Giants will move to fill out their depth chart
The New York Giants are expected to sign a running back, per head coach Brian Daboll.
Update
Dan Duggan of The Athletic is reporting that the Giants are expected to sign veteran running back Jonathan Ward following Monday’s practice.
The Giants are signing RB Jonathan Ward after this morning’s workout, per source. Has 22 carries in five seasons. Was with the Steelers last season.

Ward, 27, weighs in at 6-foot and roughly 202 pounds and was originally signed by the Arizona Cardinals as an undrafted free agent out of Central Michigan following the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s appeared in 46 games over his career with the Cardinals, Tennessee Titans (2023), and Pittsburgh Steelers (2024). Ward has primarily been a special teams player throughout his career, playing about half the possible special teams snaps in every game in which he’s been active.
The Giants suddenly find themselves shorthanded at the position with Eric Gray on the PUP list and rookie Cam Skattebo suffering a setback with his hamstring injury last week. Fellow rookie Rushawn Baker also remains sidelined with a knee injury.
Daboll said that the team is hosting tryouts on Monday and expect to sign a back after those conclude. He also clarified that the outlook for Skattebo is optimistic. The rookie had an MRI over the weekend and tests came back clean.
However, hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky and even relatively mild ones can take time to fully resolve. For now, the Giants have just Tyrone Tracy, Devin Singletary, and Dante Miller as their only healthy backs.
