The Daniel Jones era for the New York Giants isn’t over just yet.
Despite being heavily linked to Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy, the Giants kept the sixth overall pick and used it on LSU wide receiver Malik Nabers.
According to Dianna Russini of The Athletic, the Giants still believe they can build their offense around Jones.
“The Giants believe they can still build around Daniel Jones,” Russini said. “They have confidence in him. It was Maye or bust.”
Giants fans might be sick of watching Jones play quarterback, but they shouldn’t be surprised by this report.
Last month, Giants head coach Brian Daboll said Jones would be their Week 1 starter as long as he’s healthy.
“We’re excited to have Drew, and he knows what his role is going to be,” Daboll said, via NFL.com. “He’s going to get a lot of reps this spring, he needs to learn our system, but again excited to get Daniel back, when he gets back he’ll be the guy.”
Jones signed a four-year, $160 million contract with the Giants last offseason. His 2023 season was cut short by an ACL injury.
The Giants are hoping Jones will stay healthy this fall. If not, they’ll need to lean on Drew Lock.
