The New York Giants are a team to watch as the NFL Draft inches closer, that’s for sure.
According to NFL insider Jordan Schultz, the Giants are trying to acquire the No. 3 pick in this year’s draft. The belief is they’d use that selection on North Carolina quarterback Drake Maye.
“The #Giants have been trying to trade up to No. 3 with the #Patriots, with the belief being they want UNC QB Drake Maye, according to multiple league sources,” Schultz said. “The prevailing belief is it’s a long shot to happen — but New England is listening to all calls.”
Maye met with the Giants during the pre-draft process. He raved about the team’s head coach, Brian Daboll.
“It was good in there. Meeting with Coach Daboll, big fan of him, offensive mind, one of the best,” Maye said. “So, it’s just getting in there, getting to know those guys, Mr. Schoen. So, it was good in there.”
The Giants have made it known they’re looking to add another quarterback to their roster, which makes sense considering the Daniel Jones era has been disappointing to say the least.
Maye would fit the mold for what Daboll likes in his quarterback. Just look back at the success he had with Buffalo Bills star Josh Allen.
If the Giants want to get Maye, however, they’ll need to make the Patriots an offer they can’t refuse.
