If you are showing up for the first time since last weekend’s loss to DEN, you need to read the posts in between the games this past week. The important thing to realize is that the Giants are losing the 2025 battle but they are winning the war with the ascension of The Deliverer, aka Jaxson Dart. He’s the Giants franchise QB.
Dart makes rookie mistakes but generally speaking he is making many veteran plays. You are encouraged to read the posts from this past week to put everything in context.
Did the Giants get hammered today in Philly? Yes.
Was the defense cooked? Yes. Blown tackles, bad coverage, bad angles They are a hurt unit but everyone is hurt. Bowen is a mess. He’ll be gone. It’s really disappointing how Nubin has taken a step back this season. Muasau and Okereke were swiss cheese. Nubin takes a bad angle on Barkley on the second play of the game and Barkley houses it. Tempo was toast, playing from behind/off tempo the rest of the game.
I keep noticing that other Giants players are cleaning up the sacks that Carter is creating. Burns got one and Nacho got another.
The loss of Skattebo is another backbreaker. Nabers and now the rookie dynamo. Let’s just pray he’s ok. He was being operated on tonight in Philadelphia because he needs to be operated on asap.
Without weapons, Dart needs to learn to throw the ball away, else he’s going to get pummeled with too many sacks. Even so, he looked good again in many spots. Throws a dime to Theo Johnson in the red zone that is dropped. A big TE has the size advantage and gets paid to hold onto the ball. Brady said that. That was 4 pts there.
Another bunch of (lost) points were caused by the officiating. Arguably the most egregious of the blown calls was on the tush push. Thibodeaux wrestled the ball away for a strip fumble. Not called. You be the judge. The set of blown calls are all essentially acknowledged by the Fox crew. I think this blown call might help rescind the legality of the tush push. The officials can’t call false starts, and they don’t know when the play is over. If you can’t officiate it correctly, it shouldn’t be allowed.
The only thing I really want the rest of the way this season is to see is Dart improve each game. This includes taking less sacks, throwing the ball away, sliding as much as possible, improving his footwork, and not getting too down on this season.
The schedule is hard but, as one example, the Giants are +3 next weekend vs SF despite their 2 biggest playmakers gone and a decimated Defensive roster. Maybe some of those players are able to make it back. The Giants can win games against a number of remaining opponents. Philadelphia and Denver had good defenses so the rest of the way doesn’t have to be as difficult.
The Giants are done searching for a QB. The need for a super high draft pick to get a QB is no longer there. Rebuilding is over. The Giants have Offensive Tackles, Edges, a DL, and a QB. Needs still remain but are generally more available than otherwise. With a new head coach and continuity for Dart (via members of the current offensive staff that can remain), this team is not that far off from contending. I suspect we will see flashes from time to time in 2025.
Dart is a force. We eagerly await news on Skattebo’s health and ability to continue playing football.
