Opinion split on whether Giants can win Sunday’s game

Washington had the luxury of a bye week between their two New York Giants matchups. Essentially, they’ve had three weeks to gameplan for the Giants, and New York is currently beat up, struggling with their identity, and can’t stop the outside runs. The Giants haven’t won a primetime game since 2018, and I hope they can buck that trend; although possible, it might be difficult against a well-rested unit.

I have heard people rant and rave and bellow that we’re done and we might as well be dead, but I’m only a cockeyed optimist and I can’t get it into my head that the Giants won’t make the playoffs. Evan Neal and Mark Glowinski wake up and figure out how to pass block and Daniel Jones hits one of those deep shots that Nick Falato showed us Isaiah Hodgins and Kenny Golladay were open on against Philly. Darius Slayton catches another to atone for the one he dropped in the end zone the last time he visited DC. Leonard Williams returns (I’m a cockeyed optimist after all) and clogs the middle to stifle Washington’s running game. And Big Blue stake their claim to a playoff spot (almost, anyway) when the 49ers beat the ‘Hawks and the Jets beat the Lions.

Obviously this could go either way. The Commanders have home field advantage and are coming off a bye, but New York will be hungry after being embarrassed by Philadelphia. The Giants outplayed Washington two weeks ago after going down 10-0 in the first quarter. All they have to do is avoid another slow start and get at least a passable performance from their offensive line.

Valentine’s View
My instincts are telling me not to do it, but I am going to pick the Giants to win Sunday in Landover, Md. The Giants should have won two weeks ago in East Rutherford, N.J., and that game may yet be their undoing. Still, after watching that game I can’t help but believe the Giants are the better team and should have won. Also, I guess I want to believe that after starting 6-1 the Giants will hold it together enough to make the playoffs. The fact that Saquon Barkley is off the injury report this week doesn’t hurt their cause.
