NFC East power rankings

February 27, 2024 by Our Turf Football

Sonja Greenfield, Senior NFL Reporter NFC North, NFC East

By Sonja Greenfield // @Mom23RN

You know me, I like to do power rankings.  I feel like they’re totally useless, and are essentially a hyped-up version of “Who’s Hot and Who’s Not” when the more established columnists/sites do them.

I, on the other hand, like to have fun with them when I do them and bring in some interesting/different reasons for why I rank the teams the way I do.  But you know me, and I enjoy doing things for fun.  So, as we kick off Week 1 in the NFL, here’s how I have the NFC East looking.

1. Dallas Cowboys.  America’s Team takes the number one spot heading into the season.  Why?  They have a shiny new coach in Mike McCarthy, a shiny new wide receiver in CeeDee Lamb, and their quarterback Dak Prescott had a crappy offseason and suffered from depression and anxiety.  While I’ve not suffered from either, I’ve seen it close up. And it’s not pretty. So, I’m glad that he’s been able to work through it, and I hope he continues to speak about these issues.  In these days and times, it’s so necessary. So, they get the number 1 spot.   They take on the LA Rams in Primetime for their Week 1 game.

2.  Philadelphia Eagles This is the only team in the NFC East that is returning their head coach.  But they also have an interesting quandary at quarterback. QB Carson Wentz has had his fair share of the injury bug, however, they do have a pretty decent back up in QB Jalen Hurts who they took in the draft this past spring.  They also have WR Jalen Reagor who they’re excited about as well.   So, they’re looking pretty good.  Plus they have a new Pro Bowl cornerback in Darius Slay who came over from the Detroit Lions.  It could be fun. Besides, I enjoy a good cheesesteak. They meet division rival Washington for their Week 1 game.

3. Washington Football Team  This team has had one crazy offseason. But despite all of the negative things, there still were a few bright spots. QB Alex Smith is back from his horrid knee injury 2 years ago, which is amazing.  They also drafted defensive lineman, Chase Young.  QB Dwayne Haskins is looking to step up his game and has been named the starter.  Despite all that has gone on with Washington, I’m slightly optimistic.  This could be a very fun team to watch this season.  They meet up with the Eagles in Week 1.

4. New York Giants  I’m overall sort of down on this team. And it seems like I’m not the only one. Well… sort of. New coach Joe Judge is letting his players know how he wants them to look, and will not accept anything less.  And from a team that has been a little lackluster these past few years, it’s sort of a good look.

A sign Joe Judge’s tough practices are resonating with Giants — players are starting to give themselves laps when they make mistakes. pic.twitter.com/riHZOAlFiV

While they won’t be Super Bowl contenders, in theory, this first season under Joe Judge, but if players keep responding to his style of coaching, it may not be far.  They open up against the Steelers on Monday Night.

How did I do?
