NEW YORK GIANTS FIRE KEVIN ABRAMS…
The monumental sea change within the New York Giants’ organization with the arrival of new Head Coach John Harbaugh has begun. The team has fired previous lifer and “untouchable” Kevin Abrams, who most recently served as the team’s senior vice president of football operations and strategy. The 54-year old Abrams had been with the team since 1999 and was once considered the sure-fire successor to Dave Gettleman as the team’s general manager before the arrival of current General Manager Joe Schoen. He was also the team’s “salary cap guru” for the past 25 years.
His roles with the Giants included salary cap analyst (1999-2001), assistant general manager (2002-2017), interim general manager (2017), and vice president of football operations/assistant general manager (2018-2021), and senior vice president of football operations and strategy (2022-2025).
COACHING PURGE BEGINS…
According to The New York Post, the New York Giants have informed the following assistant coaches they will not be retained:
- Special Teams Coordinator Michael Ghobrial
- Defensive Line Coach Andre Patterson
- Inside Linebackers Coach John Egorugwu
- Secondary Coach/Defensive Pass Game Coordinator Marquand Manuel
- Cornerbacks Coach Jeff Burris
The evaluation of the remaining assistant coaches continues, with most, if not all, expected to be let go.
