The New York Giants and John Harbaugh are in the process of finalizing a 5-year contract that will make Harbaugh the next head coach of the New York Giants. Harbaugh had previously served as the head coach of the Baltimore Ravens for 18 seasons. The contract will make Harbaugh one of the highest paid coaches in the NFL.
Word of the impending deal spread late Wednesday night after Harbaugh left New Jersey after meeting with Giants’ senior officials. The day-long meetings took place at Quest Diagnostic Center and was subsequently followed by a dinner. Those who met with Harbaugh included team President/CEO John Mara, Executive Vice President Steve Tisch, Senior Player Personnel Executive Chris Mara, Director of Player Personnel Tim McDonnell, General Manager Joe Schoen, and Assistant General Manager Brandon Brown, among others. Quarterback Jaxson Dart also talked with Harbaugh.
It is being reported that Todd Monken, who served as Harbaugh’s offensive coordinator in Baltimore will serve in the same role on his staff with the Giants.
The mutual flirtation between Harbaugh and the Giants began immediately once Harbaugh was fired by the Ravens. Before Wednesday, the Giants had held extensive phone conversations with Harbaugh, including a visit by Chris Mara to Harbaugh’s home in Maryland on Sunday. In addition, former New York Giants head coaches Tom Coughlin and Brian Daboll, as well as former quarterback Eli Manning, spoke to Harbaugh on behalf of the team.
The press conference with Harbaugh is expected to be held next week.
