Today marks the 7 game audition of Mike Kafka to be the next Head Coach of the NY Giants.
With mangle mitts Daboll gone, there’s very little room to go any lower than 2-8. I’m frankly soooo tired of boob Head Coaches blowing 4th Quarter leads and trying to assign blame collectively. It’s not. It’s on the Head f***** Coach to close games out. I know. I wrote a “rule” about this because of the bs we dealt with from Jim Fassel at the end of his career. He put the best Giants offense I’ve ever witnessed (2002) in mothballs to blow that 49er playoff game. It’s the Head Coach. It’s always the Head Coach. So I’m ready to hit the reset button on this season with ANYONE ELSE.
Enter Kafka. He was poised and refreshing in his candor about the team. Can they go 0-7? Of course they can. They are playing without a lot of important pieces. I (and you, all Giants fans) just want 60 freaking minutes. That isn’t a lot to ask. Not 52 minutes. Not 59 minutes and 35 seconds. 60 minutes. Like what the Rams did to the 49ers last weekend when they didn’t play with their damn food in the middle of Q4, instead putting their foot on their division rival’s throat and FINISHING.
So we will be watching Kafka. It’s an opportunity for him. It’s an opportunity for the Giants. The odds are against him. The quiet expectation is that he won’t have enough to get anything beyond token consideration come January when the HC job is up for grabs. Quite possibly. But remember, the great George B. Young didn’t think enough of Belichick to keep him on. Stranger things have happened.
Kafka knows the offense. He immediately pivoted to Winston as his starter. And in a lesser news item…
It came up on my feed that the Giants signed Steelers practice squad WR Isaiah Hodgins this week. He’s familiar with the offense. Many, including myself, wanted him signed after Nabers went down. Is this related to our new sheriff Kafka? It’s hard to think otherwise. For all we know Hodgins has lost a step since 2023 but I always liked what he brought and he’s still only 27 years old. 6-3 200 lbs… The Giants need a big body tall WR. Go Kafka. Go Winston. Go Hodgins (betting on limited 0-5 snaps). Go Giants. Go better than 0-7, play 60 minutes, protect the franchise upon Dart’s return (next week?!), and we’ll be good.
Separately, a quick sidenote that Cam Skattebo is sporting a soft ankle wrap. Already rehabbing. No infection. No more surgeries. 2026 is looking better all the time. Are you pumped to see an offense with a bonafide franchise QB (Phil Simms’ words, not mine), Malik Nabers, Cam Skattebo and another legit wideout? L.F.G.
