According to multiple media reports, the New York Giants and new Head Coach John Harbaugh have hired Greg Roman. The Bergen Record is reporting that Roman’s title will be senior offensive assistant, although other media sources have speculated that Roman’s role may be that of run game coordinator.
The 53-year old Roman has an extensive history of not only serving as an offensive coordinator in the NFL, but also working with both John and Jim Harbaugh. The New York Post is reporting that Roman interviewed for the Giants’ offensive coordinator vacancy that has since gone to Matt Nagy.
For the past two seasons, Roman was the offensive coordinator of the Los Angeles Chargers under Jim Harbaugh before he was fired after the team’s playoff loss to the New England Patriots. Before that, Roman was the offensive coordinator of the Baltimore Ravens from 2019-2022 under John Harbaugh before leaving the team after a playoff loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. He was with the Ravens too in 2017-2018 as tight ends coach, senior offensive assistant, and assistant head coach.
In 2015-2016, Roman was the offensive coordinator of the Buffalo Bills under Rex Ryan, being relieved of his duties early in the 2016 season. Before that, he was the offensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011-2014 under Jim Harbaugh, who he had followed from Standford University, where Roman served as associate head coach.
Roman’s full bio is available in the New York Giants Coaching Staff section of the website.
