Other Giant observations

The words that should fuel Giants coach Brian Daboll throughout training camp | The Athletic

It will be on Daboll to rediscover the formula that gets his players ready to go for Week 1. The Giants started fast in Daboll’s first season, riding a 6-1 opening stretch to a surprising playoff run.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to observe any changes Daboll makes to his approach during camp. Daboll has run a relatively light camp in past years, with the Giants placing an emphasis on health heading into the season. The benefit of that approach has been the avoidance of major injuries to significant players. The downside is the 68-6 result in the past two openers.

Presser Points: Takeaways from GM Joe Schoen & Coach Brian Daboll | Giants.com

Daboll on how his relationship with Schoen has developed over time.

“We [have] a great personal relationship, we spend a lot of time together outside the building and a great working relationship,” said Daboll. “There’s things you learn every year, maybe I shouldn’t have handled it this way, what do you see from your end outside looking in and he asks the same thing and that’s how you try to get better. You make mistakes, you communicate, try to get through the things you need to get through and improve on them, ask for advice, get advice….You can disagree but you’re not going to be disagreeable all the time. Have good discussions, do what’s best for the team and that’s why I enjoy working with Joe.”

Becoming a nasty team may require Giants to push limits in training camp | New York Daily News

Whatever the motivation, even if it’s contrived, having some in-house rivalries on the Giants’ line of scrimmage is honestly exciting. It could be constructive — if managed properly.

Daboll needs to know how to foster more nastiness on the line of scrimmage, though, while keeping control of the players and the team. They can’t cross the line as enemies. They can’t practice bad habits that will hurt the team in games. They can’t lose their identity while trying to build one. They need to be unleashed within a sound structure.

Giants rookie Jaxson Dart betting on himself to have Eli Manning’s career (and then some) | The Athletic

“Ever since I was a kid, that was something that enticed me; I wanted to play on the biggest stages in the biggest moments,” Dart said. “I want to feel that pressure. It’s addicting, being able to get that adrenaline, being able to slow the whole game down and execute something in front of a lot of people. It’s almost like modern-day gladiators. It’s definitely exhilarating and you live for that.

“I just think (New York) is a really unique place, and you never want to think that you’re bigger than anybody else, and you want to be able to rally a community. You saw it with the Knicks this year and what they did in the playoffs, and you got to see the support and the fans in the streets. That’s what I want to be a part of. I want to celebrate with the city and New Jersey as well.”

Giants’ Jamie Gillan leaves No. 6 to Jaxson Dart, switches to No. 12 | USAToday.com

New York Giants rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will wear No. 6 for Big Blue this season. The issue was seemingly settled this week when the player currently donning the number, punter Jamie Gillan, switched to No. 12.

NY Giants camp sights and sounds: What we saw and heard on Day 1 | The Record

Neal began Wednesday’s session at left guard with the second team, then rotated with starter Greg Van Roten at right guard for the remainder of the team periods. It’s a big step forward for Neal and, if he is able to emerge as a viable option on the interior, that would be a significant boost to his staying power. We’ll start getting real evaluations of Neal at guard once the pads go on next Monday.

What Tommy DeVito still means to the Giants in his likely last ride | New York Post

Sure, this figures to be The Last Roundup for Tommy DeVito with the Giants.

This will be his third training camp with his hometown team, which is an achievement unto itself, considering the logical conclusion to his summer as a first-timer in 2023 was for the Giants to thank him for his services, wish him well and send him on his way.

Ranking the top 50 NFL offseason signings, trades, draft picks | ESPN

10. Abdul Carter, Edge: Drafted by New York Giants. The rookie has the physical tools to play a disruptive role early this season in coordinator Shane Bowen’s defense. With the off-the-ball quickness to attack offensive tackles, and the lower-body flexibility to run the arc, Carter is poised to make plays opposite Brian Burns. He has game-wrecking potential after 12 sacks and 61 pressures in his final college season.

Three other Giants moves made the list: 24. S. Jevon Holland; 44. QB Russell Wilson; and 46. QB Jaxson Dart.

Can the Giants’ new-look pass rush join the ranks of the NFL’s all-time greats? | CBSSports.com

What NFL history can teach the Giants about building a legendary pass rush. This foursome is made up all former first-round picks. All are still in their primes at under 28 years old and all are signed for at least the next two years. So yeah, the upside is there and they have the runway to inflict some damage.
