John Mara, Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll already know they have drawn the most difficult schedule in the NFL when measured by their opponents’ combined 2024 winning percentage (.574).

The exact order of the games, though, will create additional pressure for the Giants to start fast in the early weeks of this seeming do-or-die season for their fourth-year GM and coach. Drawing the AFC West and NFC North in the NFL’s annual rotation of division opponents, on top of a powerful NFC East, means the Giants are going to have to work hard early on just to be able to exhale and reach the middle of the season on level ground.

How many wins must Giants’ Joe Schoen, Brian Daboll reach to save their jobs past 2025? | NJ.com

If that’s the case, then Schoen and Daboll could probably get away with winning 6 or 7 games, so long as Dart and the rest of the 2025 draft class shows flashes of brilliance. Anything less than that and Mara should can them, regardless of any individual players’ growth.

They may be able to save themselves with 5 wins if Dart develops into a young star. Mara stressed the importance of the Giants finding their long-term QB solution in January, stating, “That’s obviously the No. 1 issue for us going into this offseason: Find our quarterback of the future.” If Dart shows glimpses of that in his rookie year, perhaps there’s a scenario where both men — or, at the very least, just Daboll — earn another year to continue molding him. 3. New York Giants (Pre-draft: 958.63 points; post-draft: 972.95). The Giants executed their draft plan to perfection, although only time will tell if those were the correct strategic moves. As expected, they selected Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter No. 3 overall, but one of the biggest moves made in the first round involved New York moving back in for Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart. Although it added value in 2025, it did cost them a future third-round selection — a small price to pay if the quarterback works out. With the other selections, the Giants mostly targeted role players like Toledo’s Darius Alexander and Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo.

Nabers was targeted on 39.9% of the Giants’ pass attempts against man coverage — four out of every 10. I don’t have coverage target data for too many seasons, but since 2016, that target rate against man coverage is exceeded by only 2020 Davante Adams and 2022 Tyreek Hill — two of the best receiver seasons we’ve seen in the past decade.

Nabers’ profile looks more like that of a slot receiver — somewhere on the CeeDee Lamb-to-Josh Downs spectrum of high-volume receivers who dominate with quick separation underneath. But Nabers played out wide much more and saw his targets farther downfield. It really was the case of a uniquely bad team funneling every throw they could to their one uniquely good player.

He has an unusual ability to retain information as a rookie quarterback. Fellow rookie Cam Skattebo recognized it within 24 hours of being around him, and the Giants organization has teased some of those moments during their internal video series (that is definitely not “Hard Knocks“).

“We do a variety of things with our evaluations, whether it’s being prepared, doing a good job of answering things quickly, changing the picture and being able to fix it, workouts, dinners, senior Bowl, combine,” head coach Brian Daboll told me before the start of rookie minicamp Friday. “He did a nice job in all the areas and touchpoints of responding in the right way. And that’s all important… and then he was good on tape.”

New York Giants: Alleviating Flaws, and a Swing at Quarterback.

While the Giants’ bold trade up for quarterback Jaxson Dart dominated headlines, they quietly did a solid job addressing key roster weaknesses with the rest of their draft class. Edge rusher Abdul Carter should form a dangerous pass-rush duo alongside Brian Burns, giving New York a much-needed spark off the edge. On the interior, Darius Alexander adds power and depth to a defensive tackle group that struggled against the run outside of Dexter Lawrence.

Offensively, fourth-round pick Cameron Skattebo brings physicality and versatility to a backfield that helped produce just the 23rd-ranked rushing grade last season. While this draft will ultimately be judged by Dart’s development, the Giants added several players who should contribute immediately at positions of need.

“Gosh, I would not be shocked if it started off right away. I wouldn’t be shocked,” he said on the Up & Adams Show. “I don’t expect the Giants to be a super team here, right? I’m not picking the Giants to go to the playoffs. The amount of money they’re paying Russell Wilson does not guarantee him the starting quarterback job.

“Those are things I look at to go, if Jaxson Dart is phenomenal through training camp and OTAs and has a really good preseason, and Russell Wilson’s just okay and doesn’t look all that sharp, I don’t think they’ll be scared to start Jaxson Dart here.”
