It has been a historic season for New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers and he added another line to the books on Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles.
With his six-yard catch in the first quarter, Nabers tied Puka Nacua (Los Angeles Rams) for the most receptions by a rookie wide receiver in NFL history (105). Early in the second quarter, Nabers broke the record with a six-yard catch — his 106th of the year.
Although Nabers trailed tight end Brock Bowers, who had 108 receptions entering Sunday’s slate of games, he now owns the outright record for rookie wide receivers.
But Nabers wasn’t done just yet.
Later in the game, Nabers also set a new franchise record for receptions in a single season with his 108th catch, surpassing wide receiver Steve Smith, who hauled in 107 receptions in 2009. It also tied him with Bowers for the all-time record.
Nabers had already set a few benchmarks this season:
- Most games with five or more receptions by a rookie in NFL history (13).
- Single-season Giants rookie receptions record (92).
- Nabers and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. are just the third rookie duo with 1,000-plus scrimmage yards each in NFL history.
Should Nabers finish Sunday’s game with 166-plus receiving yards, he will also break Odell Beckham Jr.’s franchise record of 1,305 receiving yards by a rookie.
The Las Vegas Raiders play in the afternoon slate, which will allow Bowers the opportunity to reclaim the all-time NFL record for receptions by a rookie. Should he come up short, Nabers would own both the outright record and the record for wide receivers.
