The New York Giants are dropping like flies, particularly along the offensive line, so it should come as little surprise they hosted a tryout on Monday.
Offensive tackle Derrick Kelly visited East Rutherford alongside linebacker Benardrick McKinney, who is expected to be signed to New York’s practice squad.
The 26-year-old Kelly signed with the New Orleans Saints as an undrafted rookie out of Florida State in 2019. He spent his first season on the practice squad before making the active roster in 2020, but got derailed late in the season after landing on the reserve/COVID-19 list.
Kelly (6-foot-5, 320 pounds) spent the first six weeks of this season back on the Saints’ practice squad before getting waived on October 12.
Kelly has appeared in six career games — all in 2020 — and earned a 64.2 overall grade courtesy of Pro Football Focus.
Although the Giants intend to sign McKinney, there is no additional word on the status of Kelly.
