One of the Giants 1-2 punch on their defensive line is locked up, as NJ.com reports today that the team is going to franchise tag Leonard Williams.
Williams knows all about the franchise tag, as the team hit him up last season with the tag, so it’s the second straight year he will have the tag placed on him.
The lineman earned $16.1 million on the franchise tender in 2020, this year that should move up to about $19.3 million in 2021.
The worst part about a tag on Williams is now New York will have to carry the $19.3 million as a cap hit, which is a big chunk of the salary cap for the team.

Now with Williams locked up, the team would love to lock up Dalvin Tomlinson, who is set to be a free agent next week.
Tomlinson at age 26 set career bests in sacks (11.5), tackles for loss (14), and quarterback hits (30) in 2020.
The Giants front office needs to decide the long term fate of Tomlinson, but they have one down, one to go on the team’s defensive line saga.
