Fantasy Football: Tyrone Tracy Outlook After Cam Skattebo Injury

October 29, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

New York Giants running back Tyrone Tracy is the top fantasy football waiver wire option after rookie Cam Skattebo saw his rookie season come to a premature end. With the Arizona State phenom sidelined for the rest of the season, the former fifth-round pick has the opportunity to be a week-in, week-out start at arguably the most important position in fantasy. However, will he be able to make the most of this situation?

Tyrone Tracy Fantasy Football Outlook After Cam Skattebo Injury

Tyrone Tracy the Player

Before we discuss the situation, we first must Tyrone Tracy the player. The running back entered the season as the starter but quickly lost the job to Skattebo and has recorded 159 rushing yards and one touchdown on 45 carries through six games. This obviously isn’t very impressive, but his track record suggests he can handle a starting job.

Brian Daboll and the New York Giants selected Tracy in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. Despite this underwhelming draft capital and the team’s decent financial investment in Devin Singletary, Tracy quickly won the starting job and put up a solid rookie season. Appearing in all 17 games while making 12 starts, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 839 yards and five touchdowns on 192 attempts, good for a respectable 4.4 yards per carry. He also showed promise in the passing game, hauling in 38 receptions for 284 yards and a touchdown on 53 targets. He finished as the RB26 despite beginning his career as a backup and playing in a bad offense.

Nobody was confusing Tyrone Tracy with Barry Sanders, but he proved that he can carry fantasy football relevance when given the opportunity. The only question is whether the Giants will provide said opportunity without Skattebo.

Can Tracy Shine?

While you can never say anything with 100% certainty in the world of fantasy football, all signs point towards Tracy having a clear path to a workhorse role. Cam Skattebo left early in Week 8’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, and Tracy finished the night with 10 carries for 39 yards and two receptions for 14 yards. Third-string running back Devin Singletary, meanwhile, recorded two carries for zero yards and one reception for 28 yards.

This continues the trend established during Tracy’s rookie year, and it should only continue in 2025. After all, the younger Tracy has another year of experience under his belt, while the 28-year-old Devin Singletary is past the age where running backs tend to fall off a cliff. Barring a last-second addition to the backfield, Tyrone Tracy will be the unquestioned starter, and the volume alone will make him a valuable commodity in fantasy football.

While the Giants could theoretically trade for a running back, it’s hard to see that happening. The Giants have some hope for the future with rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, but at 2-6, they don’t stand much of a shot at the postseason in 2025. Given their current standing, why would they sacrifice a draft pick for a veteran running back in a lost season? Tyrone Tracy will see a massive workload, and while he lacks the talent to be a top-12 running back, the volume alone ensures he’ll be an RB2 in fantasy football for the rest of the season.
