Eli Manning excited for 2021 Giants, expects Daniel Jones to excel

July 20, 2021 by Giants Wire Leave a Comment

Two-time Super Bowl MVP and New York Giants legend, Eli Manning, is feeling excited over this year’s team. And he has a lot of faith in Daniel Jones as he enters his third season in East Rutherford.

“I think also just the fact that from your first year to second year, Jones had a new offensive coordinator, a new coach, and everything going in,” Manning told NFL Network from the annual Manning Passing Academy. “Now, at least going from [year] two to three, he has the same offense and the ability to grow within the offense. It’s not just the quarterback getting comfortable; it’s the offensive line, the receivers, everybody getting on that same page. I’m excited for him, I’m excited for the team, and I look forward to good things.”

Manning acted as a mentor for Jones in 2019 during Jones’s rookie year and continues to do so even in retirement.

Manning has had the ability to see Jones’ potential firsthand and see what the quarterback is truly capable of. He thinks now that Jones is returning almost his whole coaching staff and starting lineup from last season he will be able to settle in and help the Giants win some football games. The Giants will be returning nine of 11 starters from the beginning 2020 season.

The main losses from last season are Kevin Zeitler (G) and Golden Tate (WR), but they will be replaced by the additions of Kenny Golladay (WR), Kyle Rudolph (TE), Kadarius Toney (WR), and Zach Fulton (G). With a couple more playmakers for Jones to utilize and an extra year of familiarity in Jason Garrett’s offense, Manning believes that Jones can excel.

Meanwhile, Manning will be back with the Giants in 2021 but as a worker in business operations and a as fan, rather than a player. This is a role that Eli is excited to take on.

“I am excited to be back just to see the players and be around them,” Manning said. “I still communicate with Daniel Jones and Saquon [Barkley] and Sterling Shepard and the guys that were there. I’m excited to go to a Giants football game as a fan. I’ve never done that before. I’ve never gone as a fan. I’ve never been inside the stadium and watched the game. I’ve never watched a game with my kids before besides on TV. So, I’m excited to take my kids to the stadium, root on the Giants, root for a big win, and enjoy that with the fans.”
