Veteran quarterback Tommy DeVito has been claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots. DeVito, a former undrafted free agent, has spent his entire career to date with the New York Giants.

Tommy DeVito, New England Patriots, Agree to Contract
Despite a strong performance in the preseason finale where he completed 17 of his 20 attempts for 198 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions, the Giants decided to release DeVito and move forward with veterans Russell Wilson and Jameis Winston, complementing first-round pick Jaxson Dart.
Tommy DeVito first entered the league as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. Signing with the New York Giants, the Illinois product appeared in nine games while making six starts as a rookie. Going 3-3, the rookie finished his inaugural season with 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions on 178 attempts. His eight touchdown passes led the Giants, and he quickly became beloved by the fanbase.
DeVito returned to a backup role in 2024 and earned another opportunity to start after Daniel Jones wore out his welcome with the club. Unfortunately, he only made two starts, completing 70.5% of his passes for 257 yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions. Drew Lock earned most of the action in Jones’ absence.
Since entering the NFL, Tommy DeVito has appeared in 12 games while making eight starts. While on the field, the New Jersey native has gone 3-5 while completing 145 of his 222 pass attempts for 1,358 yards, eight touchdowns, and three interceptions. While he’s nobody’s idea of a franchise quarterback, the former undrafted free agent has starting experience and has proven capable of being an adequate backup for a proven veteran passer.
