Biggest NFL Name That Could Be Cut Before 2025 Season – 5 Possible Next Teams

August 7, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

One of the biggest names in the league and running back Devin Singletary, could be cut before the 2025 regular season starts. According to Bleacher Report, they believe the New York Giants will release Singletary since they have a ton of talent in their backfield supporting veteran quarterback Russell Wilson. After drafting Cam Skattebo, he has been putting on a clinic at camp, and given that Tyrone Tracy Jr. is the presumptive starter this upcoming campaign, it makes sense for the Giants to part ways with Singletary. Of course, they will attempt to trade Singletary before deciding to release him.

Originally selected in the 2019 NFL Draft, the former Florida Atlantic product was brought in last offseason in an attempt to offset Saquon Barkley’s loss. While Barkley ran off to win a Super Bowl with the Eagles, Singletary couldn’t prove that he’s the long-term answer for this team’s backfield. After posting the lowest rushing total of his career and losing his starting job to Tracy, there shouldn’t be a surprise to his release. Singletary might not be the best available runner if he becomes a free agent, but he has experience and reliability for these five teams.

Potential Destinations

Dallas Cowboys

The Dallas Cowboys don’t have a strong running back room that will help quarterback Dak Prescott in pressure moments. Between Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams, it will be likely that 2025 draft Jaydon Blue will win the starting job as he’s been able to show that he’s a true threat in the run game. Even though it looks exceptional so far with Blue as the starter, it doesn’t mean they shouldn’t get at least a reliable veteran and a major upgrade over Williams and Sanders. Singletary might be slowing down, but the scenery change could help to get more snaps as a backup.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, running back Isiah Pacheco is on the hot seat, which is why they signed Elijah Mitchell to provide some relief in the run game behind veteran Kareem Hunt. It’s been disappointing for Pacheco, but Hunt is slowing down, so they will need to sign another veteran if Mitchell can’t live up to expectations. Either way, they should bring in Singletary to give him a decent shot to win the backup job at least.

New Orleans Saints

The New Orleans Saints will have one of the worst offenses led by Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler. The run game can’t single-handedly save them, but if they get enough talent to back up Alvin Kamara, they could benefit from someone like Singletary to share the snaps. He’s a better fit and more versatile than options like Cam Akers and Kendre Miller.

Washington Commanders

However, the Washington Commanders’ offense might be solid for Jayden Daniels, except for the running back room, which needs a massive overhaul. Brian Robinson Jr. hasn’t been that explosive like the Commanders were expecting. Austin Ekeler is injury-prone and is one huge hit away from landing himself on the IR. Singletary won’t be the long-term solution for this run game, but it buys the Commanders some time to find their next talent that can run the football exceptionally well.

Los Angeles Chargers

Nobody loves running the football more than Jim Harbaugh, so why not sign another running back? Between Omarion Hampton and Najee Harris, these two workhorses could greatly benefit from a speedster like Singletary. The possible trio could put Justin Herbert in the best spot to win the first down conversions.
