4 Giants named to The Athletic’s All-Rookie Team

The New York Giants’ 2024 season did not go as expected. It not only left a lot to be desired but the way the losses happened and the way player personnel was managed were ugly.

Despite all of that, the Giants drafted pretty well last April and had four players named to The Athletic’s All-Rookie Team.

Two players were named to the first team: Wide receiver Malik Nabers and safety Tyler Nubin.

Two other players were named to the second team: Running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. and cornerback Andru Phillips.

Finally, three players were honorable mentions: Tight end Theo Johnson, defensive tackle Elijah Chatman (undrafted), and linebacker Darius Muasau.

It’s no surprise that Nabers and Nubin were named to the first team. Nabers, selected with the sixth overall pick, finished third among all receivers with 109 catches despite missing two games with a concussion, and he finished seventh in receiving yards with 1,204. Nubin led all rookie safeties in tackles with 98 even though he missed four games this season.

Tracy definitely surprised people this year, showing off his running back chops and taking over the starting position. He had six carries that were 20 yards or more, one more than Bijan Robinson, and he was one of two rookies to top 500 yards rushing.

Phillips was huge in the run game this season and did well in coverage. The concerns around Phillips ahead of the draft were due to his lack of interceptions (zero in 38 games at Kentucky), but he nabbed his first NFL interception in Week 17 and those fears have been assuaged at the moment.
The three Giants’ rookies who were given honorable mention — Johnson, Chatman, and Muasau — all showed that they were solid draft picks with their play in 2024.
As the Giants continue their offseason routine, they should be proud to have these guys as part of the team.
