We take a look at where UConn’s transfer portal entries ended up.
The UConn men’s basketball team lost five players following the end of the 2024-25 season, including four to the transfer portal and Darius Adams from the incoming freshman class.
Where did they all end up?
UConn’s incoming freshman class dropped from four to three in mid-April after McDonald’s All-American and five-star recruit Darius Adams requested his release from the team. Adams reopened his commitment and just days ago announced he will join the Big 10, playing at Maryland under head coach Buzz Williams. The decision to join Maryland instead of UConn was likely influenced by Alex Karaban’s decision to return to the Huskies for his senior season, leaving Adams’ potential playing time in jeopardy.
Isaiah Abraham was the first to enter the portal, doing so in late March. Abraham played in just nine games his freshman season, averaging 1.6 points per contest. UConn will see much of him next year, as the forward transferred in-conference to Georgetown, where he will play next year under head coach Ed Cooley.
Ahmad Nowell entered the portal one day after Abraham after his lone season with UConn. Nowell played in 18 games last season and saw the bulk of his time during a stretch in January when Liam McNeeley sat out with an ankle injury. Nowell averaged 1.9 points and 1.1 assists and will play for the VCU Rams in the Atlantic 10 conference next season.
UConn lost its second point guard, Aidan Mahaney, to UC Santa Barbara. Mahaney returns to the west coast after one season in Storrs and two seasons with St. Mary’s prior to that. The rising-senior averaged 13.9 points each year at St. Mary’s, playing over 30 minutes per game. At UConn, he saw his role shrink, playing just under 14 minutes and averaging 4.5 points per contest. In his final year of eligibility, he’s headed back west to play for the Gauchos in the Big West.
The final player leaving UConn via the portal is Youssouf Singare, who is headed to High Point. The Mali native spent two seasons with the Huskies and appeared in 39 games, averaging 0.3 minutes per game. He is headed to the Panthers in search of more playing time.
