Two incoming freshmen for UConn will represent their respective nations at the upcoming FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup in Switzerland, per UConn release. Jacob Furphy will be a member of the Australia U19 squad, while Eric Reibe will play for Team Germany.
The World Cup will take place from June 28-July 5 of this year in Lausanne, Switzerland. The 16-nation event begins with group stage play on June 28, 29 and July 1 before the knockout stage begins on July 2. The quarterfinals take place on July 4, followed by the semifinals on July 5 and the championship game on July 6.
Australia is a member of Group D and is joined by the United States, Cameroon and France. Germany will participate in Group B with Canada, China and Slovenia.
Furphy will once again be competing for Team Australia, and has had great success for his nation, including earning a call up to the senior team for games in the FIBA Asian Cup Qualifying. Reibe also has had some experience with the German national team, competing for the U18 squad at the European Championships in 2023 and as a member of the U16 team at the same event in 2022.
