Former Husky stars Ryan Boatright, Jeff Adrien, Chris Smith, and Jerome Dyson are set to compete with the first UConn-flavored team to enter this off-season tournament.
For the first time ever, The Basketball Tournament will have a team with heavy UConn ties.
Following an official announcement on Wednesday, the Stars of Storrs boasts some big names from the past including Jeff Adrien, Joey Calcaterra, DeAndre Daniels, RJ Cole, and Ryan Boatright.
UConn men’s basketball’s all-time reading scorer Chris Smith will be the head coach. Marc D’Amelio, founder of the D’Amelio Huskies Collective, is serving as the general manager for the Stars of Storrs as they enter TBT, a 64-team tournament with a $1 million prize. If they win, $100,000 will go to the collective.
The team will compete in the Pittsburgh Regional, one of eight regionals, at the Petersen Events Center, July 19-23. It’s slated to face alumni teams from Penn State, Pittsburgh, and West Virginia, among others. They plan to hold some open practices in Connecticut before departing for Pennsylvania.
If the Starrs of Storrs make it out of the region, the quarterfinals are on July 29. The semifinals and finals will be played on August 2 and 4 on Drexel’s campus in Philadelphia.
