The Huskies add some much-needed frontcourt depth.
UConn men’s basketball continued to build out its roster this weekend. After signing incoming freshman Jacob Ross earlier this week, the Huskies secured some frontcourt depth in forward Dwayne Koroma.
The 6-foot-8 Koroma joins UConn after one season with Le Moyne, where he averaged 11.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and two assists per game for the Dolphins. Koroma is originally from Berlin, Germany and started his college career at Iona. After one season with the Gaels, he transferred to Salt Lake Community College for one season before heading to UT-Arlington for the 2023-24 season and then landing at Le Moyne last year.
Koroma finished second nationally in effective field goal percentage (eFG%) last season at 71.8 percent. He did most of his damage around the rim, where he uses his length and athleticism to score. While he doesn’t shoot much, he has a smooth left-handed stroke and was 5-14 from three last season. One of those makes came in a Nov. 13 loss to UConn at the XL Center, where he scored 17 points and added six rebounds and three assists.
The addition of Koroma shores up a front court that was talented but thin in terms of depth. Koroma should be a versatile defender and effective rebounder capable of playing three through five while he’s on the floor. His ability to convert around the rim should also make him legitimate lob threat when the Huskies are on offense.
With Koroma and Ross now a part of the picture, the Huskies now have 12 scholarship players and three scholarships remaining.
