After getting cut at the end of training camp, Chen will get another shot in the WNBA.
Kaitlyn Chen is back in the WNBA with the same team that drafted her. On Sunday, the Golden State Valkyries announced it re-signed the former UConn point guard after waiving her at the end of training camp.
Earlier this month, Chen traveled to Mohegan Sun Arena with a few current members of the Huskies to watch Paige Bueckers’ return to Connecticut. Now, she could potentially make her debut in the league against Bueckers and the Dallas Wings in the Valkyries’ next game on Tuesday.
Golden State selected Chen in the third round (30th overall) of the 2024 WNBA Draft. In the preseason, she put up 11.9 points on 47.3 percent shooting to go along with 3.8 assists and 3.0 rebounds but still got cut before the regular season began. She’ll now join up with fellow former UConn guard Tiffany Hayes on a Valkyries team that has won three straight after a 2-5 start.
Chen spent one season in Storrs and started all 40 games at point guard for the eventual national champions. Prior to UConn, she played at Princeton for three seasons.
