Go West Young Men

Two former Syracuse Orange men’s basketball players officially found new homes out West.

Petar Majstorovic, who played one season for the Orange, will be suiting up for Long Beach State for the 2025-26 season. Majstorovic made the announcement in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

Of the many departures from the Orange’s roster this past season, Majstorovic became the first to finalize his next destination.

He played in 31 games for Syracuse, none of which came as a starter, and averaged just over 13 minutes per contest. During the Orange’s non-con slate, Majstorovic played sparingly to start but got more playing time especially once Freeman was ruled out during the middle of the season with injury. In 20 games with the Orange between January 4 and March 12, he reached double-digits in minutes in all but two games.

Majstorovic concluded his time with Syracuse averaging 2.6 points, 3.2 rebounds, 0.7 assists, 0.4 steals and 0.3 blocks per game.

Majstorovic now joins a Long Beach State program that most recently won the Big West Conference Tournament and reached the NCAA Tournament in 2023-24.

Historically, Majstorovic wouldn’t be the first Syracuse men’s basketball player to end up making the over 2,600-mile journey from Upstate New York to Southern California. He will be following the great steps of Ramel Lloyd, who decades ago played one year for the Orange before going from the Big East to the Big West. Lloyd would play the rest of his collegiate season there (1999 to 2001), capped off with his senior year in which he led the conference in minutes and points per game.

Later last night, guard Elijah Moore announced his commitment to the Utah Utes,

The 6’4” guard appeared in 26 games last season, starting 16. Moore averaged 5.2 points per game on 39% shooting from the field (31% from 3). His best game came at Tennessee where he scored 24 points on 8-12 shooting. Moore also had 16 points in 22 minutes against Maryland showing flashes of the scoring potential Syracuse fans were excited about.

However, Choppa struggled in ACC play. His scoring dropped to 2.7 points per game in 12.4 minutes of action. He shot only 29.4% from the field and 27.3 % in conference action. He’ll join a Utah squad that finished 16-17 last season, 8-12 in Big 12 play. The Utes will be led by new HC Alex Jensen next season. The Utah alum comes back to Salt Lake City from a stint on the Dallas Mavericks sidelines.

Best of luck to Petar and Choppa next season.
