Orange women and men are scattered all over this year’s All-ACC selections.
A grand total of 13 Syracuse Orange lacrosse players were named to All-ACC teams in the past week.
The women’s team accounted for 10 of those players, while the men made up the other three.
Last Tuesday, the ACC released the 2024 All-ACC Women’s lacrosse teams, which includes a first team, second team and freshman team. ‘Cuse had four players make the first team, four make the second, and two make the freshman team.
Emma Tyrrell, Olivia Adamson, Kate Mashewske and Katie Goodale were the selections to the first team.
It’s the second time Tyrrell has been named All-ACC First Team, and third overall. Adamson made the freshman team back in 2022, and Mashewske and Goodale are making an ACC team for the first time.
Congratulations to our All-ACC First Team honorees!

Ward makes the second team for the first time after making the freshman team back in 2021 and being first team last year. Sweitzer makes her second ACC team after making the first team last season, and Smith and Cheverie make their first ACC teams.

Just yesterday, the conference released the 2024 All-ACC Men’s lacrosse team, which is only comprised of one team made-up of 19 players for some reason. The Orange had three players named to that team, behind Notre Dame’s seven, Virginia’s four and Duke’s four.
Owen Hiltz, Billy Dwan and Will Mark were ‘Cuse’s selections this year. All three are making an ACC team for the first time.

Very notable by his absence is Joey Spallina, ‘Cuse’s leading scorer and a Tewaaraton Award nominee. Spallina is the leading scorer in the ACC by both points (76) and points per game (5.07), but he was not one of the eight attackmen selected to the All-ACC team.
The reason, one has to assume, that he was left off is because while he leads the conference in points and points per game overall, his numbers take a significant downturn in ACC games. Joey’s averaging 6.09 points per game in non-ACC games this year, but only 2.25 points per game in ACC contests.
He scored six points against North Carolina, two against Duke, one against Notre Dame and zero against Virginia. The five ACC head coaches are the ones who vote for this team, and clearly they were not fully impressed by what they saw.
Joey and the Orange return to the field after a long lay-off this Friday, May 3 for the ACC Tournament down in Charlotte. They’ll face the Duke Blue Devils in the second semifinal at approximately 8 PM on ACC Network.
