8th among ACC teams
While the Syracuse Orange are still a couple of months away from kicking off the 2025 season, ESPN released a list of power rankings for the next two years for all P4 teams
The criteria used for ranking the teams was:
- Returning quarterback: of course the Orange rank low here with Kyle McCord moving on to the NFL
- Likelihood of a multiyear QB on roster: Syracuse added two transfers with multiple years in Rickie Collins and Steven Angeli
- Offensive line/defensive line outlook: lots of turnover on the offensive line, but the Orange added transfers on both sides so we’ll see what the pre-season camp looks like.
- Roster management: Syracuse lost Trebor Pena and Maraad Watson but overall the recruiting is on the upswing, even with the Orange missing out on Messiah Hampton.
- Star power (All-Americans, national award contenders, all-conference contenders): a lot of talent departed, but ESPN notes that the offensive system can produce new stars and Devin Grant and Duce Chestnut have All-ACC capabilities
- Coaching staff: Syracuse kept both coordinators and that’s a positive heading into 2025.
The Orange ranked 41st between Minnesota and NC State with a lot of the credit going to the talent Fran Brown and staff have built since arriving. Here is how the rest of the ACC and Notre Dame rank:
Notre Dame 5th, Clemson 7th, Miami 11th, SMU 14th, Louisville 24th, Georgia Tech 31st, Duke 34th, Florida St. 39th, NC State 42nd, UNC 44th, Pitt 45th, Virginia Tech 46th, BC 47th, Virginia 51st, California 54th,Wake Forest 63rd, and Stanford 68th.
