OL coach Dale Williams revealed Syracuse’s starting line heading into the spring game

Syracuse Orange offensive line coach Dale Williams spoke to the media on Wednesday. He revealed his plans for Syracuse’s offensive line with the spring game coming up on Saturday. Williams said that the likely first-string offensive line will be Trevion Mack at left tackle, Josh Miller at left guard, Mark Petry at center, Joe Cruz at right guard, and Da’Metrius Weatherspoon at right tackle.

Syracuse needs to replace a lot of starting and depth players on the offensive line for 2025. Starters Jakob Bradford and Savion Washington have graduated, while starting center J’Onre Reed transferred to USC. Backup center Josh Ilaoa has also graduated. Most importantly, projected starter David Wohlabaugh Jr. is expected to enter the transfer portal, per Fran Brown. Wohlabaugh was expected to be Syracuse’s starting center.

Syracuse has spent the spring shuffling its o-line, a process that peaked with the surprise (potential) departure of David Wohlabaugh Jr. But the Orange has settled on an expected starting five — at least for the spring game — and it includes a surprise. https://t.co/y2gHKwXUF1

Petry only recently started snapping the ball at center. He was Syracuse’s starting right guard last season. Petry was one of three Orange players with over 1,000 snaps played in 2024, according to Pro Football Focus. The others were Kyle McCord and Savion Washington.

Weatherspoon was slated as Syracuse’s starting right tackle during spring practice last season. He indicated to the coaching staff that he wanted to move to left tackle. Weatherspoon took the majority of the snaps at left tackle at the beginning of last season. He rotated with Wohlabaugh during the last part of the season when the latter returned from injury.

Cruz and Mack were on the two-deep depth the entire season last season. Miller, who transferred from Georgia last year, was also on the two-deep for every regular season game. He was left off the depth chart for the Holiday Bowl.

Mack was listed as a backup tackle on both sides while Miller was listed solely as a backup left tackle. Cruz was Petry’s backup at right guard. Mack only played 12 snaps on offense while Miller only logged eight snaps, according to PFF. Cruz played 175 snaps as an extra offensive lineman when Syracuse lined up in a jumbo set during short-yardage situations.

Petry and Weatherspoon are entering their redshirt senior years, while Cruz is a redshirt junior. Both Mack and Miller are redshirt sophomores.

Notably, Enrique Cruz Jr. was not listed by Williams among the starters. Cruz started 18 games in his first two seasons at Syracuse under Dino Babers. He only played 33 snaps last season in the first year under Brown.

Syracuse fans can see the new-look team in person at the JMA Wireless Dome on Saturday for the spring game at 3:00 pm. Fans are being welcomed to the Quad starting at 10:00 am.
