It wasn’t a very good year for Syracuse sports
The 2024-25 Syracuse Orange sports season will be remembered thanks to football, but overall it was a pretty mediocre season for the Orange.
Syracuse ended the year finishing 61st in the Learfield Director’s Cup standings between Utah and Denver. This is a drop from last year’s 44th place finish, but it was still better than UConn, Georgetown and Boston College. In terms of ACC rankings, Syracuse was 14th ahead of BC, SMU, Georgia Tech and Pitt.
The Orange finished with 407 points on the year. Syracuse was boosted in the spring by men’s lacrosse (83), women’s lacrosse (53) and women’s rowing (54). Overall. the Orange did not enjoy the type of post-season success needed to finish higher in these rankings. We’ll dig into the numbers over the next couple of weeks, but too many Syracuse teams missed out on NCAA post-season chances and that’s why the overall ranking dropped.
Texas was the overall winner followed by USC. Stanford, North Carolina and UCLA. We’ll see if next year brings a resurgence for the Orange, and a large part of that will fall on the basketball programs to earn NCAA Tournament bids.
