Juli Boeheim, the wife of Syracuse head coach Jim Boeheim, was robbed at gunpoint in a shopping mall parking lot earlier this month.
According to police reports acquired by Syracuse.com at the time of the incident, a “youth” approached Boeheim’s car, pointed a gun at her and reached into the vehicle to take her purse.
That youth has now been identified as a 12-year-old boy. The tween, not identified by name, was arrested and charged with second-degree robbery, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon and fourth-degree grand larceny. He’s currently being held in a detention center for juvenile delinquents, according to police reports obtained by Syracuse.com.
Officers have since found that the boy used an air gun in the robbery.
After taking Boeheim’s purse, the 12-year-old rode off with three men in what was later discovered to be a stolen vehicle. Officers found the car on Tuesday.
Boeheim, a co-founder of the Jim and Juli Boeheim foundation, hopes to assist the child who robbed her.
“I think the thing that helped her was it was a kid,” Jim Boeheim said earlier this week. “… Her main thought was, ‘let’s help this kid.’ That’s what she does, we do with our foundation. Try to help these kids. That was the first thing she said, ‘I feel like I want to help this kid.’ But that’s the way she thinks. That’s who she is. She tries to help people.”
Juli Boeheim is currently in Brooklyn cheering on her husband and sons as they look to mount an upset over No. 1 seeded Duke in this year’s ACC Tournament.
