A two-sport athlete from The Big Apple.
It’s time to start preparing for the 2025 Syracuse Orange football season. We’re going through the roster to take a look at each Syracuse player as we get to know a lot of new faces for Year 2 of the Fran Brown Era.
Up next is…
Name: Jaylen Pray
Position: Defensive line
Year: Freshman
Height: 6’6”
Weight: 280 lbs.
Hometown: Bronx, NY
High School/Previous College: Brunswick School (Greenwich, CT)
2024 stats: N/A
2025 projections: The defensive line remains one of the key “swing” positions for how well the Orange will perform. Despite a few departures, Syracuse does have some veterans who project to be starters. That being said, depth is a constant in the trenches and considering previous injuries at the position, there’s a puncher’s chance Pray could see some playing time. I would say he’s more likely to redshirt but see playing time early in the year against teams like Colgate.
How’d he get here?: Committed to the Orange after originally picking Boston College. Interestingly, Pray also played high school basketball and got offers from Maryland and Georgia Tech.
What’d recruiting sites say?: Three-star on ESPN, 247Sports and On3; two-star on Rivals.
Winners Get Washed: AXE — keeping things simple and refreshing, because “when you smell good, good things happen” and that will certainly be needed after a tough day at work in the trenches.

Interesting nugget o’interest: Some fun notable alum who Pray will be following in the footsteps of: sports columnist and podcaster Bill Simmons, the Winklevoss twins and Justin Henry (Kramer vs. Kramer).
