Boeheim’s Army upset 81-78 by We Are D3 in TBT Round of 32

“The Silencer” lives up to his name and quiets an Orange-heavy crowd.

Just a few days ago, Boeheim’s Army led mainly by some familiar Syracuse Orange names began the 2025 TBT on a commanding note. Just like that, the number-one seed is out of the tournament after a heroic performance from Ty Nichols and No. 4 We Are D3.

“The Silencer” lived up to his name, finishing with 36 points on 13/20 from the field and 6/10 from three to push We Are D3 past Boeheim’s Army 81-78 and stun the crowd at SRC Arena on Monday night.

It was a game where Boeheim’s Army had control for the first half, but let things slip away. The team led by as much as 12 points with under two minutes to go until halftime. The offense suddenly turned cold, with Boeheim’s Army mustering just 27 points in the third and fourth quarters combined.

Buddy Boeheim started off slow but once again caught fire from three, finishing with 17 points on 5/10 shooting from behind the arc. Jacob Gilyard led the team with 19 points, while Chris McCullough (12 points) was the only other player to finish in double-figures for Boeheim’s Army.

The three-point shot went largely absent for Boeheim’s Army. After hitting 18 threes in its first TBT game, the team shot just 10/31 from behind the line, half of those makes coming from Buddy. Boeheim’s Army also had nine extra trips at the foul line compared to We Are D3, but made under 70% of those opportunities.

For We Are D3, Christian Parker and Dimitrius Underwood also stepped up and hit big-time shots considering Nichols was really the only player consistently getting and making his looks. The trio of Nichols, Parker and Underwood combined for 60 of We Are D3’s 81 points.

Boeheim’s Army was eyeing a deeper run after not playing in the TBT in 2024 and falling in Round of 32 two years ago. Nichols had something to say about that, and now, Orange fans will have to wait until the fall for the formal return of ‘Cuse hoops.
