St. John’s entered today’s game against DePaul ranked No. 24, but without star Shamorie Ponds, there was definitely some concern for the Red Storm.
After opening as 9.5-point favorites, the line dropped all the way to 6-points before tip, after news that Ponds would be out.
The junior out of Brooklyn averages 20.6 points per game for the Red Storm.
The 10-5 Blue Demons took full advantage of his absence.
DePaul upset St. John’s in Queens today, 79-71, behind 27 points for senior forward Femi Olujobi.
It was a massive outing for Olujobi, who averages just over 10 points per game this season.
Olujobi starred in what was a bit of a homecoming. The Long Island native started his college career at Oakland, before transferring to North Carolina A&T. He took a graduate transfer to finish his career at DePaul.
After the game, St. John’s coach Chris Mullin gave an update on Ponds’ status.
St. John’s is now 14-3, with back-to-back losses after falling to Villanova earlier in the week.
The Red Storm will likely fall out of the Top 25.
